I have lived in Crystal Lake almost all my life, graduating from Crystal Lake Central
High School in 1977. In 1979, I began working at the Crystal Lake Health Food Store
and immediately took a strong interest in nutrition. Learning under Bob Edwards, the
founder, I read as much as I could and eventually became store manager. After many
years of experience, working with our great customers and staff, I completed a degree of
Certified Nutritionist in 2001. I truly enjoy what I do here at the store and wouldn't trade
it for anything! I live with my wife, Sue, in Crystal Lake and together we enjoy whitewater canoeing and
skiing. I also am a jazz pianist and have played with many groups over the years, mostly
the John Weber Trio. Currently, in fact, we are the featured group for Woodstock's 'Jazz
on the Square'. jazzonthesquare.net

My passion for complementary medicine and nutrition began about 30 years ago and in
2003, I was given the opportunity to work with the awesome staff at Crystal Lake Health
Foods. At the same time, I was finishing up my Masters of Science in Traditional
Chinese Medicine and Western Herbalism. Although I am an herbalist, I feel that
nutrition and physical exercise is every bit as important in maintaining a healthy body or
helping the body get back to a state of homeostasis. It is a pleasure working with people
that are so passionate about helping others. Together with the wonderful customers that I
have met over the years, it makes Crystal Lake Health Foods a great place to work!

I have always had an interest in learning about holistic healing methods, better known as
alternative medicine. After having two children, my interest turned into a serious
endeavor. I took it upon myself to look into alternative approaches to better theirs and my
own health since I was seeing many people's health declining because of traditional
allopathic medicine. Due to my passionate interest, I was compelled to continue learning
and passing on precious information to the public. So, I found myself at Crystal Lake
Health Foods. I have been with the store for ten years and I bring an expertise in
homeopathy, organic cooking, natural childcare and women's health alternatives.

I believe that every health concern has a physical, emotional, and spiritual solution so I approach each customer as body, mind, and spirit. I enjoy working at Crystal Lake Health Foods because each day is a new learning experience. We are like family here. We care about each other and we care about our customers like our extended family.
I am a poet and enjoy reading my poetry aloud at various venues. I have been a member of A Poetry Project since 1998. I have been published in After Hours, BAC Street Journal, Point of View, Apocalypse, and Tucumcari Literary Review.
I enjoy spending my weekends learning how to dance.

It is an immense understatement to say that my time spent at Crystal Lake Health Foods
has transformed who I am and what I believe. The education I have received here, along
with the people I have gotten to know and come to deeply care for, have helped to shape
my way of life and my goals for the future. I have spent eight years working at this store
and during those years, I graduated from both Central High School and Carthage College
with a B.A. in Communications. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Anthropology from, Northern Illinois University and hope to incorporate my alternative health and
environmental interests into my studies and profession. Some of my other interests and
hobbies include an intense love of music and literature, photography and design, walking
and biking, and experimenting with food and cooking.

I consider myself a 'work in progress' at Crystal Lake Health Foods. I have always been
interested in natural alternatives and I enjoy working with such educated people, who are
now my friends. My time here has taught me and my family how to lead a healthier
lifestyle. I really enjoy learning that what goes on our skin, what we clean our homes
with, and what we ingest directly affects our overall health. Being a wife, mom and now
grandmother makes it even more important to educate myself on a healthier lifestyle.
